HID report: AI & mobile reshaping security strategies
HID has released its 2025 State of Security and Identity Report, detailing significant changes in business approaches to security through the adoption of mobile credentials and artificial intelligence.
The report surveyed 1,800 partners, end users, and security and IT personnel across the globe, highlighting key industry trends.
Ramesh Songukrishnasamy, Senior Vice President of Engineering at HID, emphasised the shift in security strategies.
"The security industry is at a pivotal moment where the integration of modern technology with existing infrastructure is no longer optional—it's imperative," he stated. "The fact that 73% of security leaders now prioritise software-driven unified solutions shows we've moved beyond traditional siloed approaches. Organisations are demanding platforms that can scale with their needs while providing actionable intelligence."
Among the report's findings is an increased adoption of mobile credentials and biometric technologies, indicating a move away from traditional access methods. Presently, 61% of security leaders view the expansion of mobile credentials as a primary trend, and around two-thirds are either deploying or planning to implement mobile solutions.
Concurrently, biometric technologies such as fingerprint, iris, and facial recognition are gaining traction, with 35% of respondents already employing these technologies and another 13% planning to do so.
The report also reflects a growing need for unified security management solutions to simplify operations. A significant 67% of security leaders are transitioning to software-driven solutions, highlighting the importance of unifying multiple data collection methodologies, which 73% find "somewhat" or "very important" to their organisation.
Interoperability remains a critical concern, as noted by over half of security professionals who consider open platform solutions to be either "extremely" or "very" important for their organisations. This ongoing trend underscores the necessity of seamlessly integrating new technologies with existing systems.
The research indicates a strategic shift towards converged platform solutions that integrate physical and digital security functions, such as video surveillance and access control, into a unified platform. Approximately two-thirds of organisations and 73% of integrators and consultants are moving towards these software-driven solutions.
Channel transformation is observed as a consequence of digital innovation. With 77% of channel partners acknowledging their adaptation to these changes, the demand for AI, cloud solutions, IoT integration, and advanced analytics is reshaping service expectations. The security channel must continue to evolve to meet the changing market demands and keep up with the industry's digital transformation.
The rapid adoption of AI agents is enhancing security operations, with implementations seen in access control, identity management, and security management platforms.
Fifty per cent of those adopting AI report improved efficiency and speed, while 47% highlight enhanced real-time data analysis capabilities.
Sustainability continues to influence security decisions, with 75% of leaders considering it when selecting solutions. Despite this, security effectiveness and cost remain top priorities for 80% of integrators and consultants, who view these factors as more critical than sustainability.
